You've probably surmised, from the photos,
that I turned 51 the other day.
I took it like a champ and didn't shed a tear.
I blushed with each greeting that appeared on
Facebook.
Blushing is a youthful trait, right?
You might also have noticed that my Plumbago
plant bloomed in the house.
It isn't a plant I've hardly seen before, so I was
hoping to keep it going indoors until warm temps
came again.
I wasn't so lucky with the lavender.
I'm never lucky with lavender.
I've got jonquils and chrysanthemums
that need to get out into the dirt...
I'm waiting for that particular mood
to happen in which I put on shoes and
pick up a shovel.
March came in like a...
hmm...
a squirrel maybe?
And has boinged around like a kangaroo...
Kentucky leaves one with lots of guesswork
in the weather category.
Things turn on a dime as well.
You might find your family taking
cover in the basement and/or
traipsing around the yard in their
swim trunks on the same day.
It pays to be flexible.
Iced tea in one hand, flashlight and
candles in the other.
Hubby has played indoor golf of late...
putter at the ready in case weather
permits an outing.
Boy and Maya are still working it out.
See her sticking out her tongue behind
Boy's back?
Is that not just like a woman?
So snarky!
I had to remind that girl she was also
off the street and needs to offer
some grace to the newcomer.
Lessons in nature all over the place.
Lemon cake, anyone?
I stirred lemon juice into sweet condensed milk...
poked holes into a yellow box mix cake...
slathered that on the cake, let it sit in fridge
overnight...then made icing from powdered
sugar, lemon juice, butter and milk...
and spread that over the cake...then
added lemon zest on top.
It was a hit and very delicious!
Do you sometimes make up things as you go?

Belated Happy Birthday!
Gosh, that cake looks good ... I could eat a huge slice right now!
Belated Happy Birthday..we are close..not in age but dates..I turned 59..
I hope your husband is doing better..love the scale vignette:)
I cook that way too. I seldom use recipes. The weather here is odd too. In the 70's yesterday and I nearly killed myself in the flower garden and today cloudy and chilly. I still worked in the garden because I am determined and slightly demented about it. xo, Olive
p.s. the pouf came from One King's Lane which is a gamble of course because you cannot return anything but we like it
Belated Birthday greetings. I turn 70 this year and I am not so sure I will take that so easily!! Have a good week. Diane
Oooh, the cake sounds divine! I love lemon. Come on Phyllis, you're still a baby! I realized last week that I turn 55 this year, talk about crying!
Happy Birthday Phyllis!!!
I will follow you in December.
Yup, Love to add to my cake mixes. Sounds like you whipped up a delicious combination!
I think your new fur member is adorable.
Hope you had a Nice B-Day celebration!<3
Happy Birthday Baby Girl! Do you know I have daughters older than you? I make a lemon cake but since we have a prolific lemon tree I can always use a new recipe. I'll be trying yours.
Boy looks quite happy even if Maya is being a bit snarky.

I missed your birthday?! Hope you had a wonderful, wonderful day. Your cake looks yummy, yummy, yummy. I am so ready for spring, and I know you are too. Our weather has been "boinging" around too. I saw snowflakes yesterday, but today the SUN is shining and skies are blue!
Oh, Happy Birthday!!!!! the 50's are the best years!!! I'd like to go back there as a matter of fact.
I call that kind of cooking, "cooking by heart"....:)
Hope your day is happy and blessings for a wonderful year!!
So sorry I missed your Birthday...happy late birthday to you. Your cake looks amazing! Yummmmm. I love anything with lemon. xoxo
Aw, happy birthday, Phyllis! I'm a year ahead of you, young one! ;o)
My grandma loves all things lemon, and your cake sounds amazing. I love your new dog that you debuted in your post below. That's kind of how I feel about our new dog - why would someone have a dog that smart and nice and not want him anymore? He's very fortunate to have found you and all that space to run in.
OH YUM!!!
Here in Idaho they say that if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes. It is presently raining, then hailing, and there will probably be snow later tonight. Never a dull moment to be sure.
I could get lavender to grow in SoCal. Up here on the Mt . . . no. If we move down to Boise, I will probably have a better chance.

Happy belated birthday to you, Phyllis. I hope this coming year will be filled with happiness for you.
Yum, that lemon cake looks really good. Lemon is a favorite flavor of mine, and my neice Marie always has a lemon cake for her birthday. Most everyone else in the family prefers chocolate cake, but I'm like Marie, and like something a little bit different now and then.
