Bashful Chalkboard

I love the look of a chalkboard.
Menus always look so inviting
when done this way.

I swear I'd order
liver and onions if it was
written in chalk on a board.
(I didn't say I'd actually eat them...)

But I have a problem!
I can't write nicely on one!

Mine hides due to the shame...it's really bad,
my chalkboard is going to need years of therapy.

My new blog friend, Kelly
blogged about her daughter's Prom
night dinner and I saw her

Isn't it awesome???
Her handwriting, in chalk?
I met Kelly at The Lettered Cottage
when her home was featured there.
(I can't find it, can you help, Kelly? )
She started a blog after people begged
her to, having seen her home!

My friend, Vanessa, solved a problem in her garden
 with chalkboard paint and
even opened a make-believe flower shop!
I LOVE the look outdoors as well,
you?

This post really is to show you my two
new lamps I've added in the kitchen.
I got them for a song! Lalala!!

You know that thing you do,
in the house that you work so hard on
and spend so much on?
and your family:

1) doesn't notice
or
2) says, "it's okay" when you ask whether they
like it or not after not having said anything about it?

Every one of my guys is LOVING the lamps
in the kitchen!
Better than the overhead lights.
The warm glow is charming their socks off.
I didn't fish for compliments or anything :)

*****

I hope all you mothers are appreciated and loved Sunday,
and every day for all you do for your families.
Reminisce about your moms, if they are gone,
and thank God for all He has done for you.

Hello Phyllis:
We so agree with you about how effective table lamps are in a kitchen - something which very few people seem to have preferring what we think of as ghastly, bright, overhead lighting.

Yes, blackboard menus are always appealing in our view.

Your lamps look lovely! I can't write on a chalkboard very well either, and I was a teacher for many years. I always wished I could do like some teachers and write with my back to the board (sort of) while still keeping my eye on the kiddies! Off to check out Kelly's blog! Happy Mother's Day!

What a pretty baby you were Phyllis! Still pretty too! I like the cozy light a little light gives off in the kitchen. Have you tried printing whatever you want on your chalkboard on your printer, rubbing the back with cahlk and then tracing the outline with a pencil? It transfers the chalk beautifully and then you can fill your pretty script in!

see you there! said...

If you can read what's on the chalkboard then I think it is perfect and I can read yours. Checked Vanessa's garden solution, very clever. Love the pic of you and your Mom.

Oh Phyllis I love the photo of you and your Mama. Do you have it framed?

I do not have a lamp in my kitchen but agree, they give a come and relax feel, have a nice slice of mmm PIE!
I will be over in a minute, ok?

mmm, i would not order liver and onions since we had to have it once a year growing up. Can you believe people thought it was good for you!

I did just come across a sliding door (wood) that was totally painted in chalkboard paint, black. Looked great also.

Can you please write in "warm cookies" please :)

God Bless,
Mary
